The mechanics behind this internal awareness rely on specialized sensory receptors called proprioceptors. These tiny biological sensors are embedded throughout your muscles, tendons, joints, and even your inner ear. They continuously send a stream of information to your brain, reporting on how much your muscles are stretching, the angle of your joints, and the tension in your tendons. Your brain then integrates this data with input from other senses, like vision and balance (vestibular system), to construct a comprehensive map of your body in space.
