What is always in front of you but can't be seen?

The concept of time that is always ahead of us, yet perpetually out of sight, is simply the future. By its very nature, the future represents events, moments, and experiences that have not yet occurred. It is the period of time that follows the present, and because it has not manifested, it remains unseen and unobservable. We can only experience time as it unfolds in the present, and once a moment has passed, it becomes part of the past.

Philosophers and scientists have long pondered the nature of time and the reality of the future. Some philosophical theories, like presentism, suggest that only the present moment is truly real, and that the past and future are not. Conversely, eternalism proposes that the past, present, and future all exist equally, with the differences being merely subjective to our perception. Regardless of these differing views, the common understanding remains that we cannot directly perceive what is to come, as it exists beyond our current sensory reach. Even with advanced technology, such as telescopes, we can only observe light from the past, as it takes time for light to travel.

Despite its unseen nature, the future plays a significant role in human thought and motivation. Our brains are wired for anticipation, a psychological process where we mentally prepare for expected outcomes. This anticipation, especially of positive events, can actually boost our mood and provide a sense of well-being, as the brain releases dopamine. We constantly plan, hope, and even worry about what lies ahead, demonstrating our deep engagement with a dimension of time that is perpetually in front of us but forever just beyond our grasp.
