Following the dissolution of The Beatles in 1970, Paul McCartney was eager to get back to performing with a new, more intimate band. To do this, he recruited his wife, the photographer Linda McCartney, to learn keyboards and provide backing vocals. The crucial third member was Denny Laine, a seasoned musician who had been the original lead singer for the successful British rock band The Moody Blues. Together, this trio formed the core of the rock group Wings in 1971.
The band's lineup would change several times over its decade-long run, but Paul, Linda, and Denny remained the consistent members. Despite some early critical skepticism, particularly regarding Linda's lack of professional musical training, Wings became one of the most commercially successful acts of the 1970s. They proved their staying power by dominating the charts with a string of massive hits that are still staples of classic rock radio today.
Their impressive catalog includes the epic, multi-part "Band on the Run," the powerful theme to the James Bond film "Live and Let Die," the soaring ballad "My Love," and the infectious pop hit "Silly Love Songs." The band ultimately released seven studio albums and cemented McCartney's status as a vital creative force long after his time with The Beatles had ended.
