The famous Abbey Road album cover, capturing the Beatles striding across the zebra crossing, features John Lennon as the Beatle in the distinctive white suit, positioned first in line on the far left of the photo, which means he is the first from the right in the direction they are walking. This iconic image, taken on August 8, 1969, outside EMI Studios (now known as Abbey Road Studios) in London, has become one of the most recognizable and parodied album covers in music history.

Photographer Iain Macmillan had only ten minutes to capture the shot, standing on a stepladder while a policeman held up traffic. He took six photographs of the band crossing the road, and Paul McCartney ultimately chose the fifth frame for the album sleeve. The lineup shows John Lennon leading, followed by Ringo Starr in a dark suit, a barefoot Paul McCartney holding a cigarette, and George Harrison bringing up the rear in denim.

The cover's imagery inadvertently fueled the infamous "Paul is dead" conspiracy theory, with fans interpreting various elements as clues to McCartney's supposed demise. For example, Lennon in white was sometimes seen as a religious figure or angel, Ringo in black as the undertaker, and McCartney being barefoot and out of step as the deceased. Despite these theories, the photograph remains a powerful symbol of the band, marking the last album the Beatles recorded together, even though "Let It Be" was released afterwards. Lennon's white suit, custom-made by Ted Lapidus, has even been auctioned off, highlighting its cultural significance.
