The Great (Review) Pyramid of Giza, a monumental achievement of ancient engineering, stood as the tallest man-made structure in the world for an astonishing span of over 3,800 years. This architectural marvel, built for Pharaoh Khufu during the Fourth Dynasty of Egypt's Old Kingdom around 2589-2566 BCE, was primarily constructed as a tomb. Its original height reached approximately 146.6 meters (481 feet), a testament to the advanced skills of its builders.

The construction of such a colossal edifice without modern machinery remains a subject of fascination and study. It is estimated that around 2.3 million stone blocks, some weighing as much as 80 tons, were meticulously quarried, transported, and assembled to form the pyramid. While the exact methods are still debated, theories suggest the use of vast workforces, possibly tens of thousands of skilled laborers, employing ramps, sledges, rollers, and levers to move these immense stones into place. The precision of its construction is equally remarkable, with its sides accurately oriented to the four cardinal points of the compass.

This unparalleled reign as the world's tallest structure finally concluded in 1311 CE, when the central spire of Lincoln Cathedral in England was completed. Reaching approximately 160 meters (525 feet) with its spire, the cathedral surpassed the ancient pyramid by a significant margin. However, the spire of Lincoln Cathedral collapsed in a storm in 1548, highlighting the extraordinary endurance and stability of the Great Pyramid, which continues to stand as the last remaining of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
