The word "ozone" has a fascinating origin, stemming from the Greek word "ozein," meaning "to smell." This is quite fitting, as ozone possesses a distinct, pungent odor, often described as similar to chlorine or the fresh scent after a lightning strike. In fact, German chemist Christian Friedrich Schönbein coined the term in 1840 after he successfully isolated this gaseous chemical, recognizing its characteristic aroma.
