Rising 788 feet above the waters of the San Francisco Bay, the summit of Mount Livermore provides some of the most stunning panoramic views in the entire region. This peak is the highest point on the historic Angel Island. The mountain was named in honor of Caroline Livermore, a dedicated conservationist whose efforts were instrumental in preserving the island and establishing it as a state park for public enjoyment.

The island itself is steeped in a complex and layered history. While it once served as a U.S. Army post, it is most famous for its role as an immigration station from 1910 to 1940, often called the "Ellis Island of the West." For tens of thousands of immigrants, particularly those from China, it was a place of lengthy interrogation and difficult detention, a stark contrast to the natural beauty of the landscape. Today, visitors can hike the trails to the top of Mt. Livermore and reflect on the island's past while taking in the 360-degree views of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, and Alcatraz.
