While the Nobel Peace Prize often honors individuals, several organizations have been recognized for their monumental contributions to humanity. Standing alone at the top of this list is the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The Geneva-based humanitarian institution has been awarded the prestigious prize an unmatched three times for its tireless work protecting the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and promoting humanitarian law.
The committee's first two awards were directly linked to its immense efforts during the World Wars. It was honored in 1917 for its work with prisoners of war during World War I, and again in 1944 for its vast humanitarian activities during World War II. Its third prize came in 1963, an award shared with the League of Red Cross Societies to mark the organization's 100th anniversary.
