In drone racing, what does the 'S' rating on a LiPo battery indicate, such as '4S' or '6S'?

Each 'S' represents one lithium polymer cell wired in series, with each cell providing a nominal 3.7 volts — so a 6S battery delivers 22.2 volts. Higher cell counts mean more voltage and power, which is why competitive FPV (Deals) racers have largely moved from 4S to 6S batteries for greater speed. The transition to higher voltage systems also required new motors and electronic speed controllers designed for the increased power.
