The Nobel Prize Award Ceremony for 2025 was held on what date in December?

The Nobel Prize Award Ceremony for 2025, like all Nobel Prize ceremonies since their inception, was held on December 10. This specific date is not arbitrary but deeply rooted in the history of the prizes themselves. It marks the anniversary of the death of Alfred Nobel, the Swedish inventor and philanthropist whose will established these prestigious international awards. Nobel passed away on December 10, 1896, and his legacy continues to be honored on this solemn yet celebratory day each year.

The tradition of presenting the awards on December 10 began with the very first Nobel Prizes in 1901, five years after Nobel's passing. This date serves as both a memorial to Nobel and, for some, symbolizes a form of redemption. Nobel, the inventor of dynamite, was once mistakenly labeled the "merchant of death" by a French newspaper. This deeply affected him, and the prizes became his enduring response, a testament to peace, science, and human progress.

Every year, the world's attention turns to Stockholm, Sweden, and Oslo, Norway, for the award presentations. In Stockholm, the King of Sweden presents the prizes in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, and Economic Sciences. The Nobel Peace Prize, as per Nobel's wishes, is awarded in Oslo by the Norwegian Nobel Committee. These ceremonies are followed by lavish banquets, bringing together laureates, royalty, and distinguished guests to celebrate outstanding achievements that have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind.
