Across the English Channel, in London's Highgate Cemetery, lies the tomb of Karl Marx, the influential philosopher and political theorist. Marx moved to London in 1849 and spent the remainder of his life there, dying in 1883. His original grave was in a more obscure part of the cemetery, but due to the large number of visitors, his remains, along with those of his wife, were moved to a more prominent location in 1954 and a large monument with his bust was erected. This tomb is now a Grade I listed monument.
Far from the bustling cities of Europe, the famed aviator Charles Lindbergh is buried on the serene island of Maui, in the U.S. state of Hawaii. Lindbergh, known for his solo non-stop transatlantic flight, had a deep love for the remote and quiet beauty of Maui. After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, he chose to live out his final days on the island rather than undergo treatment. He was buried in 1974 in the graveyard of the Palapala Ho'omau Congregational Church in a simple grave he reportedly designed himself.
